ABOUT PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN
Every woman member of Park Ridge Presbyterian Church considered a member of the Presbyterian Women (PW). Although not a requirement of PW, any woman is welcome to join or form a Circle. Circles are small groups that meet monthly for fellowship. Please see the list below of current Circles. Each Circle has a charitable organization they support financially or otherwise. Offerings that support the Presbytery of Chicago are received at meetings.
PW also has a coordinating team that serves as the leadership Board of PW. The team presents Gatherings on various topics monthly from September to May. The PW also oversees the church-wide Rummage Sale in April and October.
To learn more about PRPC PW, please contact the church office at 847-823-4135 or pw@parkridgepresby.org
Presbyterian Women Statement of Purpose
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
- to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
- to support the mission of the church worldwide,
- to work for justice and peace, and
- to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.
PW Coordinating Team
The PRPC PW Coordinating Team includes moderators, vice moderators, treasurer, secretary, rummage sale representative, cares/concerns representative and a member of each circle. This group plans local monthly gatherings, for which all members of the church and community are invited. The programs cover diverse topics and feature small bites. A small donation is requested from attendees.
The Coordinating Team Rummage Sale committee runs the rummage sale held in April and October. Church members and friends are encouraged to clean out closets & cabinets to donate gently used, new or unwanted items. All members of the community are welcome to donate and/or shop the sale.
The Circles collect voluntary offerings during their meetings. Circle members are encouraged to make a pledge that can be donated at any meeting or on an annual basis. These are three suggested offerings:
- Thanks: established in 1880; 40% supports health ministries and 60% creative ideas for missions.
- Birthday: established in 1922; supports up to 5 projects annually such as employment training, elder care, literacy, violence prevention and women’s concerns.
- Least Coin: established in 1956 symbolizes prayer for peace, justice and reconciliation. This provide grants for special projects of evangelism, awareness building among women and relief throughout the world.
Presbyterian Women USA is the national parent organization of PW. To learn more, please visit https://www.presbyterianwomen.org/.
Every three years the national PW holds a gathering of Presbyterian Women with special worship services and informational classes that cover topics central to living the Christian life.
